CD Duplication & CD Replication
CD Duplication
This is the perfect service for short run production and cost effective pricing. So if you just want to put toe in the water without too much commitment, The Music Chef can produce from 50 up to 1,000 units using the duplication process. Whether it’s just CDs in plastic wallets for promo purposes or fully packaged albums with the printed parts, we can produce in 24 hours from approval of proof.
CD Replication
For releases into shops or where you have the demand at gigs, we strongly recommend replicated/pressed CDs. This is certainly more cost effective on 1000 units plus. There are usually special offers and all those coming via The Music Chef get free posters of their design to help with the promotion of the project.
What is the CD duplication process? How is it different from CD replication?
CD Duplication is the burning of music (or data) on to Blank CDR’s using automated machines. We use only silver/silver CDR’s, Blank discs specifically manufactured for Audio purposes i.e. if you turn them over it is virtually impossible to tell it is a CDR versus a pressed (replicated) disc. We use a “true copy” system quality control so you are sure of an extremely high quality product and service. The CD duplication process also uses a different printing process to the replication process. Low run CDR’s are printed digitally as opposed to Screen or Litho print. We will examine the artwork and advise the best printing process.
The Replication option is more cost effective on runs over 1,000 units but takes longer. A Glass Master is created from your master and through the electro-reforming process, nickel Stampers are grown from the Glass. The Stamper is then loaded onto a replication line and CD copies are replicated by pressing the stamper into liquid polycarbonate that is injection molded to the shape of the CD. Once the discs are pressed, moralized and lacquered they will await printing onto the surface of the silver discs. We can Litho print or Silk screen print the CD On-Body Artwork depending on the look of the design. Any printed parts (Booklets & Inlays, Card Wallets, Digi-packs) would be Litho printed as opposed to digitally printed as per the low volume Duplication runs.
